In the current era of artificial intelligence (AI) reshaping industries worldwide, integrating AI in healthcare, public policy, and business is paramount. Dr. Soroush Saghafian, the visionary founder and director of the Public Impact Analytics Science Lab (PIAS-Lab) at Harvard, is a key figure at this intersection. Large language models (LLMs) have brought about advances in artificial intelligence that few researchers thought possible before, at least so soon. ChatGPT set records for its fastest-growing user base in internet history a mere two months after its release to the public. Now there’s frequent talk about the inevitability of artificial general intelligence, where machines have the same types of abilities as humans. Before we get too excited though, we must be mindful of both what LLMs can’t do and what they do that is undesirable.

It’s been incredible to watch the rapid adoption of generative AI across enterprises. In a span of just two years, we have seen AI impact nearly every area of business. But the rise of AI has also raised some important questions for leaders.
