BALTIMORE, MD, October 4, 2023 – INFORMS, the largest association for the decision and data sciences, has officially named 12 outstanding members as Fellows, one of the highest honors in the operations research (O.R.) profession. The 2023 INFORMS Fellows will be inducted during the 2023 INFORMS Annual Meeting, Oct. 15-18, which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona. INFORMS Fellows are honored for their outstanding lifetime accomplishments and contributions in O.R. and analytics.

BALTIMORE, MD, April 17, 2023 – INFORMS, the largest association for the decision and data sciences, announced it has awarded Walmart its 2023 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research and Management Science for its use of operations research (O.R.) to enhance retail truck routing and load planning.

Daniels, Jr. School of Business, Business Analytics and Information Management (BAIM) the 2023 UPS George D. Smith Prize. The award recognizes excellence in preparing students to become practitioners of operations research and analytics.

BALTIMORE, MD, April 13, 2023 – INFORMS, the largest association for the decision and data sciences, has awarded Walmart, one of the world’s leading retailers, with the 2023 INFORMS Prize, for consistent and innovative dedication to utilizing operations research (O.R.) and analytics in its organizational decision-making for demand forecasting, supply chain and merchandising operations.

BALTIMORE, MD, February 15, 2023 – INFORMS, the largest association for the decision and data sciences, has selected three finalists for the 2023 UPS George D. Smith Prize, which recognizes excellence in preparing students to become practitioners of operations research and analytics.

BALTIMORE, MD, January 17, 2023 – INFORMS, the largest association for the decision and data sciences, has selected six finalists for the annual Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research and Management Science, the world’s most prestigious award for achievement in the practice of analytics and operations research (O.R.). 

INFORMS, the largest association for the decision and data sciences, has awarded the 2022 Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in the Practice of Advanced Analytics and Operations Research to researchers from MIT and Anheuser-Busch InBev for their work that leverages physical retail experiments and a platform named “TestOps” to increase sales and revenue. The platforms finds that when treatment effects are small, the environment is noisy and nonstationary, and adherence problems are common, which results in roughly 100x increase of experimental power relative to alternatives. This work sees a 1%-2% increase in sales and nearly $135 million in monthly revenue. The award was presented today at the 2022 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, IN.

Smith Prize. The award recognizes excellence in preparing students to become practitioners of operations research and analytics.
